Financial Tools for Case Managers

Overview

You don't have to be a financial expert to help your clients with money and credit issues. The following tools can help you connect clients to resources so they can meet their financial goals.

In Detail

Financial Resources Presentation: Turn clients' financial issues into personal and financial goals; Identify when and how to use spending plans with clients; Understand the basics of credit reports and scores; Create action plans to meet your clients' goals.

Spending Plan: A tool that shows a realistic picture of: 1) What money is coming in, 2) What money is going out and where, and 3) The bottom line, or what's left over.

My Action Plan: A tool to help clients make a step-by-step plan to meet their financial and personal goals.

Spending Leak Worksheet: Plugging "spending leaks" can help your clients save money for their goals. This worksheet helps clients see that the little items they buy everyday add up.

Situation Guide: This guide lays out different financial situations that may come up in a case manager's work, identifies potential questions to ask clients to identify learning opportunities and points to resources in the Resource List.

Resource List: This guide provides links to publications, community services in King County and websites that can help clients meet their financial goals. Topics include debt, money management, credit/loans, saving and other topics like shopping for car insurance.
