CAN-DO

Overview

The CAN-DO project was an on-line job information service tailored to the needs of disadvantaged job seekers and port-related businesses.  This project offered a unique, computer- based network that connected area employers with community-based training and service providers. Port Jobs funded CAN-DO from 1994 to 1996.

In Detail

Pre-dating the widespread use of the internet, CAN-DO was a computerized bulletin board that allowed employers to "broadcast" information on available job openings to non-profit and public organizations working with low-income job seekers.

Participant's resumes were placed in a database by community service providers and were sent directly to an employer in response to a specific job announcement. Companies also used the participant database to search for those individuals who offered the specific skills sought.
