Building Opportunities Initiative

Overview

Building Opportunities Initiative (1997-1999) resulted in a 10-year forecast of construction labor demand in King County, an assessment of the current training system, and a blueprint for action for better systems building. The study is available here.

The study team developed an estimate of the number of skilled construction workers needed over the next three to five years, reviewed the current pipeline for training these workers, and developed a series of recommendations for filling gaps identified through the research study.

Program Partners

The study was a joint effort of Port Jobs, the Worker Center AFL-CIO, and the University of Washington's Northwest Policy Center.
