Financial mentors empower clients Unique program garners interest from organizations across the country Port Jobs Reports, Summer 2005
FMP revolves around four key topic areas: credit and loans; money management; financial services; and financial goals and planning. The program is based on the premise that people need some level of knowledge in each of these areas in order to make informed financial decisions. Minimum competencies in each topic area serve as the framework for the assessment process and other mentoring tools. The program: 1) assesses a client’s current level of financial knowledge, financial situation, and habits; 2) identifies the client’s personal or family financial goals; and 3) helps clients create individual action plans to fill gaps in knowledge and achieve financial or personal goals. FMP is designed to be used by a wide range of agencies and organizations. It complements financial literacy services, classes and materials often available online or in local communities. The program was created by Port Jobs with support from the National Endowment for Financial Education®. Implementation funding is provided by the Paul G. Allen Foundation. 2004 Highlights
