AOP provides a chance to move up Nearly 1100 people placed in apprenticeships and trades-related jobs to date Port Jobs Reports, Summer 2005
Operated by Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Employment for Women and Men (ANEW), AOP helps people enter and succeed in apprenticeships and trades-related jobs. It is both a support system for apprentices and an apprenticeship information clearinghouse. AOP staff recruit applicants for apprenticeships and trades-related jobs through recruitment events, WorkSource Centers, referrals from pre-apprenticeship training programs and community-based organizations that work with low-income individuals. AOP's main services include:
AOP's goal is to help applicants enter the apprenticeship program or trades-related job of their choice, and remain in that program until completion. 2004 Highlights
Individuals enrolled: 239 Apprenticeship Utilization Agreements Port Jobs brokers agreements in which developers voluntarily commit to use apprentice labor for 15% or more of the labor hours on a given project (See Alley 24 and 2200 Westlake stories, page 10). Such agreements strengthen the apprenticeship system and create demand for tradespeople. Developers who have signed agreements include:
