Port Jobs and BuRSST team up New Airport Jobs position to target services for S. Central King County job seekers Port Jobs Reports, Summer 2005 Under the banner “From Poverty to Prosperity”, BuRSST for Prosperity has funded an Employment Specialist position at Port Jobs’ Airport Jobs office. The position will help low-income residents of South Central King County find employment and advancement opportunities with airport employers. One of twelve “ventures” funded by the Northwest Area Foundation, the venture area includes the cities of Burien, Renton, SeaTac, Skyway and Tukwila (BuRSST). At community workshops over the past several years, residents of those cities consistently rated jobs as one of the most critical issues the area faces. Partnerships essential to success The Employment Specialist will provide specialized training, tools and information to partner organizations so they can offer additional job-seeking training in their communities. The position will work closely with community representatives and local organizations to develop new partnerships with local leaders and multi-service centers, and collaborate with long-time Port Jobs partners such as Neighborhood House, Center for Career Alternatives, International Rescue Committee, Refugee Federation Services, Refugee Women’s Alliance, Puget Sound Training Center, and Refugee Resettlement Office. Job seeking class in store Another Port Jobs partner, South Seattle Community College, is developing a specialized class tailored to individuals needing job seeking skills. The five-hour class (called Beyond Job Search Basics) will help residents compete in airport and other job markets. Classes will target both native English speakers and those with limited English skills.
