Port Jobs and SSCC move forward on Airport University Port Jobs Reports, Summer/Fall 2004 Port Jobs recently received a planning grant from the Lumina Foundation / Academy for Educational Development to develop Airport University. Airport University is a model for providing “one-stop” shopping for educational and training opportunities to airport workers and employers. The goal is to help incumbent workers advance to better-paying jobs (both inside and outside the airport). Port Jobs and its partner South Seattle Community College envision “bringing the college to the airport” by developing on-site, short-term training (with accompanying certifications) and connecting workers to post-secondary education. The program will also explore ways to deliver courses in shorter-term modules, so that education is made more accessible for airport workers with family responsibilities.
