Financial Mentoring Program guide and website now available

Port Jobs Reports, Summer/Fall 2004

Port Jobs has released a Financial Mentoring Program Guide and website for organizations that want to help low-income clients reach their financial goals.

Financial mentoring helps clients gain a working knowledge of financial concepts and learn how to apply them in their daily life. The guide, designed for program staff, provides:

  • An overview of the Financial Mentoring Program model.
  • A set of tools and instructions for use with clients.
  • Resources and tips for financial mentors.
  • Points for managers to consider if starting a similar program.
"FMP provides a respectful way for case managers to build on clients' readiness to improve their financial behaviors,” said Marilyn Canfield, Director of Grants Administration for the National Endowment for Financial Education® (NEFE®), which funded the project.

Canfield adds, “Port Jobs has done exceptional work in developing a program guide and support materials. The FMP is analogous to a best practices manual or primer for financial mentors.”

Financial Mentoring tools and related information can be downloaded free of charge from www.financialmentoring.net.
