Partnership Highlight: Employment Security and Airport Jobs
Collaboration improves opportunities, enhances services for unemployed workers

Port Jobs Reports, Summer/Fall 2004

Alexis Russell, co-located from ESD, helps a job seeker at the Airport Jobs office.

Following is the first in a series of articles highlighting important partnerships between Port Jobs and other agencies and organizations throughout Puget Sound.

The Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) was an early partner in the Airport Jobs Program, when ESD co-located an Employment Specialist staff at Airport Jobs in 2000.

ESD also provided office equipment for start-up of the Airport Jobs office, helped fund some of Airport Jobs’ first promotional materials, and co-sponsored Job Fairs.

The partnership has been supported by key ESD executives including Gary Gallwas, Acting Deputy Commissioner, and Sharnelle Moore, Regional Director, Puget Sound Region.

The partnership has also benefitted ESD. Co-located staff update WorkSource locations about job opportunities, specialized hiring events and job fairs. ESD also shares credit with Airport Jobs for job hires assisted by ESD staff.

ESD staff have been an important part of the Airport Jobs team, working together to help an average of 400 job seekers each week.

“We’re thankful for the valuable contributions ESD has made. It has been a pleasure to work together,” says Susan Crane, Port Jobs Executive Director.
