Job fair brings
job-seekers, employers face-to-fact Semi-annual event makes good jobs easier to get, good employees easier to find Port Jobs Reports, Winter 2004
Airport Jobs’ 8th job fair opened on November 6th with lines of eager job-seekers waiting to meet employers, schools, and community organizations in the Sea-Tac Airport Auditorium. “Employers tell us the fair is a valuable use of their time and energy. The last couple of years, we have had 400-600 people attending, so employers have access to a huge number of applicants in four hours,” says Ruth Westerbeck, Airport Jobs Program Manager. Airport hiring needs tend to increase with typical peaks in air travel like summer and winter holidays. Employers who need to add staff for these seasonal increases in business have come to depend on the Airport Jobs’ semiannual job fairs to meet their recruiting needs. "HMS Host attends all the job fairs that Airport Jobs sponsors because it corresponds well with our peak hiring seasons of summer and holidays,” says Chris Keaton, a recruiter for the company. “At the recent fair, we were able to recruit for most of our 2003 holiday staffing needs, and so far have hired 15 new staff as a result.” Duke Brown, Recruiting Rep from United Airlines said, “The job fair came at a perfect time for United Airlines!” “My team needed to recruit sixty Reservation Agents quickly...we filled our testing schedule for the position within the first couple of hours, and even opened additional slots to accommodate more applicants.” Employers wishing to recruit at job fairs should contact the Airport Jobs office at 206-835-7506. Many opportunities for job-seekers Employers attending included: Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Aeroground, Port of Seattle Police, Port of Seattle, HMS Host, Enterprise Rent A Car, Shuttle Express, ICTS/Huntleigh, The Warren Group, United Airlines, UPS, and Airline Shuttle Service. Prospective students met with representatives from three local colleges (South Seattle and Highline Community Colleges and the University of Phoenix). Apprenticeship Opportunities Project, King County Work Training Program, Neighborhood House, WorkSource, and Refugee Resettlement Office were also on hand.
