Something for nothing: Connecting your employees to community services

Airport Jobs e-UPDATE (Upcoming Events), August 19, 2003

Many workers in airport-related jobs are in low-wage, entry-level positions. Due to language and other cultural barriers, they may not realize they can qualify for assistance programs based on income and family size.

But with the right information on hand, you can "give" something of value to your employees at no cost to your company. Something as simple as a poster in a breakroom or a brochure on a bulletin board can direct your employees to community resources that improve their quality of life and ultimately make them a more valuable asset to your company.

Toward that end, Airport Jobs is sponsoring Something For Nothing, a symposium for airport-related employers who want to help connect their employees to community programs and services. You'll hear from providers who offer services such as:

  • Free income tax preparation and information about Earned Income Tax Credits
  • Financial literacy training
  • Working Wheels (provides affordable used cars to eligible candidates who are experiencing employment-related transportation challenges)
  • Help for working families (information and application assistance for health insurance, utility subsidies, and more)
  • Specialized training programs at community colleges (English as a Second Language, Skill training for wage progression)
The symposium will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon in the Sea-Tac Airport Theater. Watch your email for your invitation to this important and informative event!
